Duties of a Medical Scribe

MEDICAL SCRIBE.

A Medical Scribe is someone who documents the real time conversations between a doctor or any other healthcare professional and patients. These records are stored and kept digitally in Electronic Health Records (EHR). These documents stored are helpful as they are accurate and are easily accessible in different time zones. Duties of a Medical Scribe includes:

1. Accurately document patient encounters in real time, including history of present illness, physical exam, assessment, and plan.

2. Transcribe and accurately document orders, tests, and referrals.

3. Assist the provider with data entry into electronic medical record (EMR) and ensure accuracy of information entered.

4. Review and update patient demographics, insurance information, allergies, and medication list.

5. Assist with patient flow by actively participating in the rooming process.

6. Respond to patient emails and phone calls.

7. Address patient inquiries and concerns.

8. Utilize medical terminology and knowledge of disease processes.
